In the acclaimed documentary, Marianne Faithfull re-writes her life story as an artist and a woman in the spotlight together with Tilda Swinton and George MacKay. She is joined by friends and collaborators such as Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, and Courtney Love.
Broken English has been praised for its playful way of dismantling Faithfull’s public image as merely “Mick Jagger’s woman.” The film brings to life memories of a remarkable, long-lasting career in which her unmistakably husky voice carried her from folk music to new wave, through many hardships. The film is directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, known for their collaboration on the Nick Cave documentary 20,000 Days on Earth.
A feature film about Faithfull’s life, Marianne, is also currently in production, directed by Zaida Bergroth.
