ZONE kertoo tarinan Ranskan Pyreneiden esoteerisesta Bermudan kolmiosta, joka kattaa Rennes-le-Châteaun, Bugrachin, Rennes-le-Bainsin ja Montsegurin kylät. Paikallisten keskuudessa Zoneksi, Kultaiseksi kolmioksi tai Paholaisen shakkilaudaksi kutsuttu pieni alue vanhaa Oksitaniaa kätkee sisäänsä lukemattomia mysteereitä ja salaliittoteorioita aina Jeesuksen salatuista verilinjoista, kätketyistä aarteista ja UFO:jen laskeutumispaikkoista, temppeliritareihin, Graalin maljaan ja kataariuskon initiaatioluoliin. Alue on eksentristen okkultistien, uushenkisten liikkeiden ja Euroopan muinaista henkisyyttä etsivien ihmisten kohtaamispaikka, joka on satojen vuosien ajan vetänyt puoleensa totuudenetsijöitä ympäri maailma. ZONE punoo alueen kätketyistä salaisuuksista esoteerisen hämähäkinverkon alueella asuvien ihmisten kertomusten kautta.

Paikallisten asukkaiden ja henkisten etsijöiden kertomukset ja omakohtaiset kokemukset nivoutuvat dokumenttielokuvassa toisiinsa ja sulautuvat osaksi Ranskan Pyreneiden unenomaisia maisemia. ZONE tells the story of an esoteric “Bermuda Triangle” in the French Pyrenees, encompassing the villages of Rennes-le-Château, Bugarach, Rennes-les-Bains, and Montségur. Known among locals as the Zone, the Golden Triangle, or the Devil’s Chessboard, this small area of ancient Occitania conceals countless mysteries and conspiracy theories—from the secret bloodlines of Jesus, hidden treasures, and UFO landing sites, to the Knights Templar, the Holy Grail, and Cathar initiation caves. For centuries, the region has attracted truth-seekers from around the world and serves as a meeting place for eccentric occultists, New Age movements, and those searching for Europe’s ancient spirituality. ZONE weaves an esoteric web of hidden secrets through the stories of people living in the area.
The documentary features a range of storytellers, including a writer specializing in the Rennes-le-Château mystery, a filmmaker who has declared himself the guardian of Montségur castle, a former hot air balloon pilot named Dave, Richard who runs Nostradamus’s inn, a local couple observing UFO phenomena, the mayor of Bugarach, a Parisian documentarian obsessed with the region, and a British archaeologist living in Andorra.
In the film, the accounts and personal experiences of local residents and spiritual seekers intertwine, merging with the dreamlike landscapes of the French Pyrenees. ZONE is a journey into an unseen world where magic and myth feel tangible, and where wormholes consuming space-time blur the boundaries between fiction and reality.
The documentary is directed, produced, and written by filmmaker-cinematographer Juho Aittanen and scholar of religion Boris Brander.
The film’s hallucinatory soundscape is created by Lauri Ainala of the cult band Paavoharju, along with Petoluonto, Novitshok, The Kali Ensemble, and the Andorran project Pyre: Numen.
