One summer, a young man and a young woman meet on a beach in a small town that is unfamiliar to them both. Their shared sense of being outsiders brings them together, but the romance they both awkwardly try to pursue never quite seems to get off the ground. One winter, a Korean screenwriter living in Japan sets out for a snowy mountain village in search of inspiration, where he ends up staying at an old inn run single-handedly by a taciturn recluse.
Words are difficult for everyone, and everyone is lonely – but for very different reasons.
Two Seasons, Two Strangers is the fifth directorial feature by Sho Miyake, known for his understated and moving dramas. It won the Golden Leopard, the top prize at the 2025 Locarno Film Festival.
