Uutuusfilmatisoinnin johdosta esitämme 35mm-filmikopiona Robert Fuestin ohjaaman 70-luvun -taitteen version, jossa Heathcliffinnä nähdään nuori Timothy Dalton.
Hämärä ja kolkko maatila – Humiseva harju – on paikka, jossa kiihkeä Cathy tapaa Heathcliffin – Cathyn isän Lontoon kaduilta pelastaman orpopojan – ensi kertaa. Kaksikko varttuu viettäen loputtomia päiviä Yorkshiren rönsyilevillä kanervanummilla, löytäen toisistaan tulisen ja voimakkaan rakkauden. Goottilaista sukseeta Roger Cormanin ja Vincent Pricen Edgar Allan Poe -elokuvilla tuottanut American International Pictures palkkasi Humisevan harjun ohjaajaksi The Avengers -tv-sarjassa työskenneelleen Robert Fuestin. AIP:n ja Fuestin yhteistyö jatkui myöhemmin Pricen tähdittämillä camp-vivahteisilla Dr. Phibes -kauhuelokuvilla.
Michel Legrand sai musiikistaan Golden Globe -ehdokkuuden. Jylhästä kuvauksesta vastasi John Coquillon, joka oli taltioinut Michael Reevesin Witchfinder Generalin ja siirtyi pian Sam Peckinpahin leipiin (mm. Olkikoirat, Pat Garrett ja Billy the Kid). Witchfinder Generalista myös sankaripari Ian Ogilvy ja Hilary Dwyer nähdään sivuosissa. Muita näyttelijöitä ovat takuunimet Harry Andrews, Hugh Griffith, Judy Cornwell, Pamela Brown ja Julian Glover.

Screening of the Classic 1970s Adaptation of Wuthering Heights – 35mm Print
To celebrate the new adaptation, we are presenting a 35mm film print of the late-1970s version directed by Robert Fuest, featuring a young Timothy Dalton as Heathcliff.
The shadowy, windswept Yorkshire estate—Wuthering Heights—is where the passionate Cathy first meets Heathcliff, the orphan boy rescued from London streets by her father. The pair grows up roaming the sprawling moors, discovering in each other a fierce and consuming love. When Cathy is introduced to wealthy neighbors and promised in marriage to the son of her social class, Heathcliff’s rage ignites—a fury that only vengeance can quench.
Based on Emily Brontë’s timeless masterpiece, this enchanting, passionate, and unforgettable tale has been realized “with beautiful atmosphere” (Newsweek). Anna Calder-Marshall and Timothy Dalton portray Cathy and Heathcliff, star-crossed lovers doomed to a tragic romance. The film was directed by Robert Fuest, known for his work on The Avengers TV series, and produced by American International Pictures, famed for Gothic hits with Roger Corman and Vincent Price’s Edgar Allan Poe films. Fuest and AIP later collaborated on Price-led, camp-horror Dr. Phibes films.
Michel Legrand received a Golden Globe nomination for the score. Cinematographer John Coquillon, who filmed Michael Reeves’ Witchfinder General and later worked on Sam Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, captured the film’s striking visuals. Also appearing are Ian Ogilvy and Hilary Dwyer from Witchfinder General, alongside notable actors Harry Andrews, Hugh Griffith, Judy Cornwell, Pamela Brown, and Julian Glover.
