AV-arkki\u2019s and Cinema Orion’s Art for Art\u2019s Sake screening programme will continue with the screening ”The Withdrawn” on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 17:00. The screening concludes the theme ”Reconstruction Site”, which began in autumn 2023 and continued in spring 2024. The spring season finale consists of two films that have had their world premiere in the prestigious Rotterdam Film Festival Ammodo Tiger Short Competition for consecutive years. Now they will be seen for the first time in Finland. In these two films, withdrawal is both silent devotion and defiant detachment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albanian-born, Athens-based Neritan Zinxhiria<\/strong>’s short film Light of Light<\/em> (2023) breathes new life into the photographic plates from the early 1930s found in the monastic community of Mount Athos. Her latest film, mid-length Petticoat Fire<\/em> (2024), contrasts with the pensive silence of Zinxhiria\u2019s monks: the film is an ardent monologue where the protagonist distances themself from the hyper-consumerist society and mourns the destruction of other species and our shared environment.
